What is Expanded Polystyrene and What Is It Used For?

Expanded polystyrene is a type of foam. Unlike other substances it is not an open cell, but rather closed cell foam substance with a white colour. Typical uses of EPS include that of insulation to help control temperature and packaging where the item packaged needs protection against bumps and scratches.

Expanded polystyrene can also be used for a light fire barrier. To cut the EPS into the required size one makes use of hot wires. The material is often used in the construction industry where such is then used for thermal control. The product can be recycled just as other types of polystyrene or polyethylene.
